David L. Kelly

David L. Kelly graduated from Stanford University and Stanford Law School and has been a member of the California State Bar 56 years, with a focus on Trusts and Estates Law for the last 30 years. He is a Fellow of The Institute for Global Wealth Strategies Planning, having completed a three-year post-doctorate program in advanced estate planning.

Mr. Kelly is an attorney and mediator with a broad range of experience that he uses to assist clients in creating and preserving wealth and building/protecting legacies. David is known by his clients as a bridgebuilder connecting people and solutions that span generations. David’s legal practice focuses on Trust, Estate, and Charitable Planning as well as Trust and Estate Administration.  He also provides strategic support in Trust and Estate Litigation matters. David has also represented clients in Business, Real Estate and Corporate Matters and served as general counsel of a diversified investment company focusing on real estate and energy. David’s professional practice has spanned the board, previously serving as a partner in a large multi-state law firm; as a deputy attorney general for the California Attorney General’s Office; serving as in house counsel for an investment corporation; and running a decades old prestigious small firm Estate Planning practice in Placer County. David joined the Burton Law Firm ten years ago, as the head of Estate Planning and Probate Services.

David is rated as AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. He has received the award of “Top Lawyer” by Sacramento Magazine in 2017, 2018 and 2019. He has received and maintains a rating of Perfect 10 by AVVO.com. David has been a member of the South Placer Estate Planning Council and a past board member of the Sacramento Estate Planning Council. David has been the chair of the Sacramento County Bar Association Estate Planning Section.
