The Employment Development Department (“EDD”) increases assistance for business and employees who may face lay-offs due to COVID-19

The Employment Development Department (“EDD”) has advised that employees and employers alike should make use of the Work Sharing Program. If your business is facing potential layoffs due to the pandemic, employers can apply for the Unemployment Insurance (“UI”) Work Sharing Program to help with reduced production, services, or other conditions cause them to seek an alternative to layoffs. The Work Sharing Program helps employees whose hours and wages have been reduced to:

(i)            Receive UI benefits;
(ii)           Keep their current job; and
(iii)          Avoid financial hardships.

The EDD has also advised that any effected employees should apply for Disability Insurance through the state which The Burton Law Firm can also assist with.
